CROSSES TO BEAR~

A child stood at the door, watching with fear. Her little body shook as she witnessed the beating that her mother was getting from her stepfather. She wanted to help her mother, but was afraid. She cried and watched... Finally, it was over. She listened as her mother wept and wept. She knew that her mother wanted to leave, but had no place to go. They were stuck in this house with this monster. The next morning the mother was tired from the night before, but, she made sure that the child was dressed, fed and ready for school. She gave her little girl a great big hug and whispered that all was well. The child wanted to believe her mother, and went off to school feeling pain. It would be a while before the next outbreak of violence, and the mother and the child did what they could to keep the peace, and, they made the most of it. The mother loved her child, and she did what she could to make sure that the girl would have as normal of a life as possible.
Eventually, the man and the woman parted ways. It was very hard on the woman. He left her with all of the household bills, no money, no car, and lots of emotional scars. She made up her mind that she had to do something. There was a friend that she had made in the neighborhood, and she asked him if he would drive her around looking for work and so forth. He did. She eventually found three jobs, found a baby-sitter, bought a piece of crap car for a $100, fixed up the appearance of it with her own hands, and, worked so much that she barely saw her daughter for 1 1/2 years. She was making good money now, and, was able to give them both some sort of life. She saw the stepfather here and there, but, mostly, they went their separate ways, he was never to be seen again.
That was 25 years ago. The mother met someone that would never harm her, although, in this relationship there was another set of problems. They were workable problems though, and she made it a point to stay, for the sake of stability and normalcy, for the child... She raised her daughter well. The daughter was given much love, encouragement, advice, and wisdom by the mother. She was also given many talks about the pain that they went through. She was taught to not let the past affect the present. Everything worked out well, for the most part. The mother has lost her job, the daughter is taking care of the mother. The mother is trying, she is doing what she can, but, the economy and other factors have stagnated her. The mother is sorry, she feels that she is a burden to the daughter. The daughter so loves her mother, and, is so proud of all that she survived, that she does not feel the burden, but, it breaks the mothers heart, more than anyone could ever know... She will continue to try to make ends meet, and, she prays for reprieve from her situation.
We each have our crosses to bear, we each have our humbling experiences to overcome, we each have to face what life deals us. Next time that you feel like your life is less than perfect, remember that there are those out there, who would give anything to have your life....
Just a thought I had to share...
