I am compelled to write about the 'Fallen Mayor' of the city of Detroit, for many reasons. It is not my intention to cast stones at this man, however, I do have some points to make which I would hope would somehow inspire others to think, be they politically active, or not...
This is a man who has had a life of advantage, his Mother has been a Congress woman for over 30 years, and surely, with her stature, came privilege and advantage. Now, Kwame is a talented man, he has done well with his gifts; he studied and acquired his law license, and much more. He is charismatic, strong, independent, and full of the stuff which makes men great. Still, he obviously, was not up to the position he so longed for since he was nine years old, to be the Mayor of the city of Detroit...
Today, Kilpatrick pleaded guilty to two counts of obstruction, and received, 120 days in jail, restitution of $1,000,000, 5 years probation, forfeiture of his law license, and immediate resignation of his Mayoral office. He was facing 10 felony counts, which include perjury, obstruction, assault, and more. Now, if this were you or me, we would have received at least 15 years. My point here is that he merely received a slap on the wrist, one which did not drive the point home, so little so that he was smiling, and walked out of the courtroom flashing the victory sign to those he saw. Tonight, at just after 7, he gave a speech, and in this speech, he continued to blow his mighty horn, and said that he expected the citizens of Detroit to set him up for a comeback~ He cannot run for public office for 5 years, and that is a short time away...
To the point: this man did not learn much from this. He is yet bragging, he is yet speaking of all the good he has done, without ever mentioning that he caused much chaos in this city, costing taxpayers millions upon millions, lying at every turn, praising GOD and keeping a mistress, whom incidentally is upon on perjury charges because of him, and who will not be able to come out of this as clean as he, and many other instances of wrong doing are on his shoulders...
I do not like the idea that he feels so self righteous that he believes that he has a chance to do it all over again, that is my own feelings. I think that he needs to take a good look at his character, at his faith, at his pattern. He might be able to change, I cannot say that he won't, however, if he is allowed back into politics, shame on the general public, for we have had enough of this kind of leader, don't you think???
To the youth and the aspiring, I have this message: Be sure of who and what you are. Be led by the good within, not the glamour, or the spotlight, or the temptations in life. When you take a position, ANY position, be honest, truthful, strong, diligent, and upstanding. Be the kind of person who cannot be shaken, the kind who could withstand great pressure, the kind who could honestly defend themselves without doubt. Always maintain INTEGRITY!!! Do not attempt to pull the wool over anyones eyes, for some of the eyes are more perceptive than you realize, and these are the eyes which will in turn, pull you down. Do not waste people's time being something you are not. If you say you are a public official, then be that, do not play gangsta on the sidelines, for when you play both sides of the street, there is no where to hide, you are exposed, you are like raw meat, waiting for vultures to consume. Be sound, reasonable, strong, capable, virtuous, compassionate, truthful, and kind. Believe me, the more good qualities you develop and possess, the longer your dreams will last, the more respected, admired, and honored you will be. True, no one is without taint, or flaw, still, that does not mean that you can use your flaws to gain your way, for in doing so, you have already defeated the purpose of your intentions, for you cannot build a mountain on sand, you cannot fill an ocean with ink, and you cannot breathe air which is poisoned, for in each instance, there is imminent destruction...
Kilpatrick was smirking, as you can see in this photo, he is so intelligent that he knew what he could get away with, and he succeeded to a large degree. One thing though, he has failed himself, for he did not reach deep enough into his wonderful personality to find the base of the good which he does have, he proclaimed many times in the past years that he would do nothing to harm HIS GOD or his family, and yet, they are the ones who suffer because of his inability to see what really makes a man of worth...
America has more than enough crooked politicians, gangsta's, and players. I think that most of us are looking forward to a new breed of men and women, and hopefully, they will study the example of this man and others, that they realize fully what it takes to become one of substance, for substance is the material that makes a person undeniably righteous, honored, and revered...
I will pray for this man, his family, and the world, that one day we might arise to our potential, that we might embrace the full meaning of righteousness, which begins with love; love thy GOD, then love thyself, and love for and of the world will follow. Love is without flaw, it is without negative, it is without abrasion; love makes us live in the light, and in that light, we find that it is wonderful to live in ways which are strongly secure and right...
