THE GOLDEN CHOICE...

Serenity, peace, and all good things are available to me, as I sit and watch the sunset. A golden vision of chances, a golden touch of softness against my body, a golden triumph of a day past, a golden reminder of how wonderful is this creation called life...

Once upon a time, I was filled with stress, and was under a torturous schedule. I did not eat right, I could not sleep, and I was always on edge. Then it hit me, and hit me hard; I did not deserve to live out my life in this fashion, and so, I began to make plans to radically change the world around me...

I spent several months planning, revising, and adjusting things so that I could actually walk into the CEO's office and hand in my resignation. I had it all worked out, except what I would do for a living, though I had some romantic notions which might just work. I did not have children to worry about, nor a spouse, so, I suppose I was more free than most to make this decision, plus, I had some money stashed away in the event that my dream was a nightmare...

When the day came that I handed in my resignation, the CEO was livid. The company needed people like me, and I was a top player in the totem pole of the advertising world. I just wanted a happy top contender, and shared that with no one, not ever. So, it was with great surprise, and came as a big downfall that this company was about to lose their top dog. She was so upset that she told me she would find a way to keep me. They would give me anything, anything at all to stay with them. I did my best to explain my predicament, but, she could not see, she could not understand, she could not feel. Her mind was racing to save accounts, campaigns, and much more. To her I was worth billions and that is all which was important. You see, this is why I was ready to opt out of the rat race, once and for all...

I had a large loft in the city. I had decided to rent it out while I found where I wanted most to be. I sold some of my belongings, and the rest I decided to store in an over-priced storage complex, which I contracted for one and a half years. I was going to head to the seaside, and I was going to travel as lightly as possible, that I might rebuild my life from the sand up...

When the renter took over on that final day in the city, I shook his hand, took one look around, and headed to the airport, via a regular taxi. I was used to being shuttled around in a company limo, and was dying to feel the grit of the city while riding in a taxi. It was a long and rather expensive ride to the airport, and the cabbie was insane, smelly, and cold in manner, but, it was a thrill to be out there, and in the life...

I had found a beautiful cottage on the beach in a small island in the Caribbean for a great price, via the help of the Internet and a friend in Real Estate. I paid for it in full, figuring that even if I did not take to this standard of living, it would be an investment of some sort, and I could rent it year round, if need be. When I arrived at the tiny island, I was enthralled by the simplicity, the sedateness of the locals, and the beauty of the area, sea, land, and sky. It was spectacular, indeed...

Not bringing much with me, I put everything away, took a shower, and headed out to see what was what in my new hometown. I was near the main town, and so strolled, at a slow, measured pace, taking in everything I could see. Each person I encountered was friendly, smiling, and accommodating. Since it was a small place, I am sure they knew who I was, and why I was here, which was fine, I wanted to become as much a part of this place as I could...

I found a few restaurants in the town square, which was more like a court. Each was interesting looking, each had the wonderful fragrance of food, and each was busy. Also, each had great outdoor seating. I stood and thoughtfully selected one, and was seated with a view of the seemingly enormous sea. It was a warm late afternoon, so, I ordered a cocktail to celebrate and refresh with. The service was impeccable, and the food was to die for. I had lobster, coconut seafood, lots of fruit and vegetables, and a few more cocktails. I could surely get used to this...

As I was getting ready to pay my tab, I heard music coming from behind me. I turned and saw that in the square, there was a lot of action going on. I watched for a moment or two as people began dancing to a certain reggae step, and then, I saw a vision of beauty such I had never seen before. He was gloriously handsome, regal, well dressed, and dancing as if he were Fred Astaire on vacation. I was spellbound...

The waiter tapped me lightly. I guess he had been attempting to get my attention and could not. I laughed and apologized, to which he smiled, asking if I would be needing anything else, to which I shook my head. I paid my tab, tipped him well, and headed out to the area where the musicians and dancing people were. I sought a spot to sit and watch when someone grabbed my arm, whirling me around, and I saw that it was the vision of beauty I had witnessed just moments before...

What a great night that was. And what a perfect life it has been for me since. The beautiful man turned out to be a leader of the tiny island, and hired me to write about his paradise. No pressure, no deadlines, and I am able to enjoy life 24/7, writing as I please, actually, doing anything I please, anytime I please. Yes, I made the right decision, and as I sit here immersed in the golden glow of the sunset, I know that this is how life was meant to be, and I am ever thankful for the wisdom to know when enough is enough...

I am heading back to the city next month, to sell my loft, to go through my belongings and determine which will be suitable for my new life, and the rest I will give to anyone who wants or needs it. I am free from pressure, binds, and other peoples expectations of my worth. I am free, and as the golden sun slips into the horizon, the beautiful man slips into the chaise lounge next to me, grabs a cocktail, then my hand, smiles, and kisses my hand in the most romantic way imaginable. Ah, life is good, and I wish the same for you...

Congratulations! Kudos to you for doing what many are too afraid to do. I think people who have families use that as an excuse to deviate and not have to worry about the their ultimate fear, failure.

Glad I stumbled over your site.

Bruno, thank you for your visit and encouragement... this is merely a story, but, I HAVE made such decisions several times in my life, some were right, some were not, but, you are right, if it is something you NEED to do, something you truly WANT to do, at any cost, you should do it... People are complacent for most of their lives, living in their dreams, for sure... Thanks for the visit, and the kind words... Blessings & PEACE:))))
