THE MOTHER AND THE INTERNET

A tiny little bird was lying on the ground. A child walked by and saw the baby bird. Immediately the child, without thought gathered up the baby bird and took it home. When the mother saw the baby bird, she knew what to do... She did not like the idea, but, how could she say no to such a caring child. She took a small box and lined it with cloth, and, put the baby bird inside. She then went to the computer and looked to see how she could care for the tiny creature. She looked and looked and looked. There was no information to be found. This did not make sense to the mother, all of her questions were easily answered via the Internet. Perplexed, she continued her search. She heard someone yelling for her, and, quickly went to see what was the matter. Dinner had boiled all over the stove and there was smoke coming out of the oven. Oh, she had forgotten, so intent was she in providing answers to her small child and the tiny bird. She hurried to see what was smoking in the oven, and, found that her roast had burned to a crisp... She opened windows and the doors and turned on fans everywhere. Then, it was time to assess the damage on the stove top. The potatoes were without liquid, it had boiled out, the vegetable was a burnt substance stuck on the bottom of the pan... Dinner was wasted. She cleared up the mess on the stovetop, and, decided that they would have to go out and get something quick to eat... She gathered up her young one, and, off they went to Kentucky Fried Chicken to order a bucket with all the extras. This took maybe 40 minutes with the drive and the wait for the order. The mother and the child drove back home, and, as they pulled up in front of their house, they saw fire engines parked all over the place, and, a plume of smoke rising in the evening sky. She did not realize at first that it was her house that was on fire! The child and the mother looked at each other and then hurried to get out of the car. The child went straight for the house, but, luckily one of the firemen grabbed him. The mother went to the child and asked where they thought they were going. The child told the mother, "The baby bird, mommy, the bird"~ The mother told the firemen about the bird, and, they shook their heads. The fire had been extinguished, it seemed that the mother forgot to turn off the oven, and, had forgotten to remove the roast in her hurry to take care of everything. One of them went inside and looked for the baby bird. It was there alright, but, the smoke had taken its little life. The child cried and cried. The mother tried to comfort him, but, the child was too upset. The mother knew inside that next time the child brought an animal of any kind to her for healing, that she would have to go through this again, and she sighed. She made a mental note to find out what she could about things that children impose upon a parent without having to resource the Internet... It was a lesson, hard learned, but, it was after all, a lesson in love and loving....
