THE ANGEL

As a little angel she appeared to me. In her eyes was the innocence of a baby, yet the wisdom of centuries untold. I did not know from where she came, she was just there, alone and looking up at me, smiling.

Something about her reminded me of someone; I could not place my finger on it, but, there was something. I smiled back at her, and, asked her where her parents where. She pointed upward. I felt a moment of discomfort, but, she did not seem upset at all.

She stood there beside me, looking around. I could not help but notice that she was very beautiful, so beautiful that she seemed serene and divine. I was wondering how long she would stand there when she touched my hand. I looked down and she told me that she was hungry. I wondered what to do. How did I know whether or not she was with someone? I was lost, as, in these times you do not just take a strange child out to lunch, no matter how hungry they are.

I asked her if she was all alone, she nodded her head affirmatively. I asked her why. She told me that she just was. This was a red flag for me. I thought about it and told her that I would go and get us some food, that she must stay right where she was. She made a face of sorts, but agreed. I asked her what she would like to eat, and, she told me with wide eyes, "I would love a cheeseburger, a big one, with everything except onion, an order of French fries, and, a chocolate, no, a strawberry shake, please." I could tell that she was indeed, very hungry.

I wanted to pick her up and hold her and squeeze her to let her know how wonderful she was, but, it would not be right, so, I grabbed her little hand and gave it a warm squeeze and told her I would be right back. As I got in the car, I saw her watching me, and, my heart was full of her and her sweet, innocent ways...

I went to the nearest McDonald's and got our food. Got back in the car and drove back to the store where we had our encounter. As I pulled up to park, I saw that there were lots of people around the spot where she had been. I rushed to park the car.

I ran to where I had left her, and, tried to get through the crowd of people. Finally I managed, and, I saw her, lying there, still as could be. She was peaceful looking but white as a ghost. I started to cry. Someone asked me if I knew who she was. I said I did not, but, that she had asked me to go and get her something to eat, and, now, I find this perfect little angel lying here...

Soon, the police were there, along with EMS. They tried to resuscitate her, but, nothing. I had to give a police report since I had been the last, and, the only of these people to have contact with her. It was all very disturbing to say the least...

The police told me that I could find out what they knew by calling in a day or two. I could not stop crying; she was so young, so perfect, so sweet...

The next day I called the Police station and inquired of the incident. They told me that not only did they not have any information, that they did not have any such case on record. I was livid. I was beside myself with wonder...

The following day, the day after that, and, the day after that, I called the station in hopes of some answers. They did not know of which I was inquiring, and, I am sure that they thought that I was not of sound mind...

Weeks went by, I tried to forget her, but, I could not. There was something about her that was so compelling, so dear to me. I just could not get her out of my mind.

One day I went to the park to walk around the mile long track. I had done two miles with great ease, I had usually had to slow down or something of the sort, but, I went around like a marathon walker. I was on my third lap, when I saw her. She was standing at the pond's edge feeding the ducks. I hurried over to her, but, was really frightened. I saw her as she lay cold.

She seemed to already know that I was coming. She turned to me and held out her arms for me. I ran to her and picked her up and swung her around. She laughed, and, those eyes of hers were like the happiest I had ever seen. I was sure mine were as well, though full of tears...

Then I told her what I had experienced and asked how she could be so alive. She looked at me carefully, and, said, "I am no more alive than you."

Hi, Lynda -

I think this is one of your better bits. Mysterious, but still real. Keep up the good work!
